Artist Statement
My work takes a different approach to traditional ceramics and glazing. While still fully functional, my pottery leans into combining both decorative and functional into everyday ceramics.
Growing up, my childhood home was filled with ordinary everyday objects with a twist. Often hand painted, wood burned or built by my parents. My nightstand was decorated in sea creatures, the bookshelves in florals and color. I decorate my pottery in a similar fashion. My work brings joy and quirkiness to the forefront in hopes that the user can become more intimate with the piece.
I use color as a form of celebration and reflection as it is usually the first thing I think about when looking back on significant moments. Clusters of color have always been a constant in my life. Whether it be from balloons at parties, flowers from the garden, tissue paper in a gift. The dots, imagery and pattern in my work are a figurative depiction of both the nostalgia of simple objects from my childhood, passions from my growing future and small moments in everyday life. Hopefully, creating a layered surface that accents your own memories and passions.
With the pursuit to create everyday items that add to the simplest joys in life, I find the phrase ‘Pottery is Personal’ to lead my ever growing discovery. Exploring a body of work that is unique and humorous, like myself.
