Artist Statement

Functionally decorative pottery that incorporates color, imagery and quirkiness to your hands and home. Inspired by my cherished memories of childhood growing up in Southern Maine and my ever growing new adventures and passions as an artist. Expression of some of my favorites like lobsters, balloons, semi-trucks, flowers and of course, color. Experimentation with flowing glazes keeps my mind sharp and actively imagining new ways to combine the controlled and uncontrollable.

I use color as a form of celebration and reflection as it is usually the first thing I think about when looking back on significant moments. Balloons continuously filled my childhood with color and joy. Unknowingly they moved on to accent a majority of my favorite life events currently. The dots, imagery and pattern in my work are a figurative depiction of both balloons and small moments in everyday life. Creating a layered surface that engages your own memories and passions.

With the pursuit to create pottery that engages the simplest memories in life, I find the phrase ‘Pottery is Personal’ to lead my ever growing discovery. Exploring a body of work that is unique and humorous, like myself.
